As Christmas recedes in our memories, here is a reminder of the Christmas lights switch-on which took place on 30 November and some images of the shop windows to warm us up in a cold January. Photos: Derek Cotterill
Burford was aglow with festive cheer as the town celebrated its Christmas lights switch-on in spectacular style. For the first time in decades, the dazzling display stretched all the way from the top of the hill to Lower High Street, transforming this picturesque Cotswold town into a winter wonderland.
A big congratulations to the Burford Chamber of Trade for their hard work in making Burford sparkle this year with the best Christmas lights Burford has ever seen. A huge slice of the credit must go to Karl and Becky Lodge of Logical Project Solutions Ltd. Their dedication and hard work in realising the vision of the Burford Chamber of Trade and organising the display, complete with a rousing count down, have brought festive magic to the town, earning admiration from locals and visitors alike.
The evening was filled with holiday magic, as Santa made a special appearance to delight children and families. The air was alive with the sound of carol singing, while the scent of mulled wine and mince pies added to the festive atmosphere. Burford’s local firefighters joined in, bringing their fire engine for children to climb aboard and explore, sparking awe and excitement. In the Bull twitten, a charming Santa post box took centre stage, amongst softly up-lit trees, complete with a wooden desk stocked with pens and paper, inviting children to write heartfelt letters to Father Christmas before posting them in the special box.
Adding to the excitement, the Burford Chamber of Trade also organised a Christmas shop window competition. A total of 59 shops participated in the town’s inaugural competition, showcasing creative and enchanting displays that brought an extra sparkle to the event.
The competition truly showcased the creativity and charm of local businesses, but there can only be one winner. A beautiful antique, silver-plated plate was presented to Ian Danne, representing the Cotswold Glass and Craft shop for their stunning winning entry. The trophy will become a cherished tradition, passed down each year to the new winner and building a legacy for the competition.
This year’s light switch-on was a wonderful reminder of the town’s charm and community spirit, kicking off the holiday season in unforgettable style. This festive event has brought joy to locals and visitors alike, perfectly capturing the magic of Christmas in Burford.
