We are sorry to report the death of David Suratgar earlier this week. He died at his home in Brandy Station, Virginia. He also lived at ther Great House in Witney Street, Burford, although he had been in the USA for several years.

David was an international lawyer and banker, educated at Oxford and Columbia Universities. He was at different times a senior lawyer at the World Bank and special advisor to the European Investment Bank, the Bank of England, and the European Commission. He served as director and deputy chairman of Morgan Grenfell and Deutsche Morgan Grenfell International.

He was a well known figure in Burford and was chairman of the trustees of the Burford Festival. He was also a director of Garsington Opera and was previously a director of the Oxford Playhouse.

We hope to publish a fuller account of his life in the September edition of The Bridge. (The August edition has already gone to press).
