National Park for Cotswolds?

The Liberal Democrats have said that they would like to create three new National Parks in England. Possible locations include the Cotswolds, the Chilterns and the Mendips. Other possibilities include the Quantocks, the Surrey Hills the Northumberland Coast and Dorset (presumably not the whole of it).

Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey said: "Our National Parks are some of the most beautiful parts of our country, and that's why I'm delighted that Liberal Democrats will create three new National Parks across England" [if they win].

The idea of the Cotswolds becoming a National Park has been around for some time. It has been opposed by local councils who do not want to hand over control of planning to a National Park authority. The views of local Lib Dem councillors on Sir Ed's proposals are not known.
