A new solar farm set up by Blenheim estate and Merton College could generate enough power for the whole of Oxfordshire. It could cover 1,000 hectares of land owned by those two bodies and produce 840 MW of electricity which should be enough to supply 330,000 homes. It would be built on land north of Woodstock. Because of its size it would need planning permission to be granted by the government.
Expect opposition to this. CPRE has already said that it is opposed to the scheme and that the proper place for solar panels is on rooftops, not on open countryside.
