Work will soon start on improving the A40 junction near Witney. This is in the area known as Shores Green to the east of Witney. At the moment there is a slip road by which traffic from the east side of Witney can join the A40 eastbound towards Oxford. There is no access to the A40 from that end of Witney for drivers wishing to go west on the A40. That means that traffic from east Witney has to go through the cente of the town via the congested area around the bridge and get onto the A40 at the main Witney junction by the Duckington roundabout. The new slip road should ease congestion in Witney town centre.
This is programme is the culmination of a process started in 2014.
The work is due to start this autumn and finish in the autumn of 2026. OCC say that "There will be some disruption to traffic on the B4022 [the road from Witney to the junction] and to a lesser extent along the A40 during the construction of the scheme. We will communicate the temporary traffic management plans in advance and work closely with relevant stakeholders, including local parish and town councils, throughout the construction period." It appears that there will also be some restrictions to traffic on the minor roads around South Leigh.
